What's this all about?
The Mapping Freedom REU Internship provides students with an opportunity to engage with and learn about a multitude of fields combining Computer Science, Library Sciences, Digital Humanities, and Geography.

Over the course of the 8 week long program, students utilize the CWRGM archive to analyze and create a research project from letters sent to the Governor of Mississippi from the Civil War and through Reconstruction.
The project expects students to write a research paper with an accompanying presentation. Students are also taught in GIS in order to map data for use in their individual projects.

This website contains the data, presentation, and research paper created by me, Hayden Wright, and includes a blog cataloging my weeks spent with the program.
